I have been traveling in SE Asia for more than 10 years and lived for longer periods in both Thailand and Philippines. The answer for the best place to meet a girlfriend depends on if you are looking for:
1) Just fun and play, or do you want a
2) Wholesome girl to marry or keep for a long term relationship.
Before I continue, let me say there are both good and bad girls in every country. I am only giving my own personal views, based upon my own experience with the ladies I have met in SE Asia. And, I am not just talking about looks or outside appearances – I am talking about the whole package; looks, personality and culture.
If you just want to go on a 1-2 weeks’ vacation, the best place party is without a doubt Pattaya, Thailand. But keep in mind it is extremely rare to find girlfriend material in a club in Pattaya – that you may want to take home and marry.
If you want to experience Asian women similar the Asian women in USA or Australia, then simply go to Singapore or Hong Kong. But, why travel so far just to meet the same as you already have? If you want to change your romantic life do not do to same as before – do something new…
If you want to look for a wife or a serious Asian girlfriend, I feel the best choice is Philippines, in my humble opinion. The reason is simply that the Philippines are closer in culture to America and all people speak excellent English. They also seem to be a little more romantic and less focused on money, in my experience. Some people may disagree with me, and there are always exceptions to the general rule.
I find the major points about Thailand are:
- Great infra-structure (roads, electric trains that work, free internet all over the city), great shopping selection and reasonable prices.
- Delicious Thai food! There is nothing better than Thai food – with the exception of some Japanese food.
- Friendly straight girls (you can find girls with day jobs who do not dabble in the nighttime/entertainment business), but they appear to be harder to seduce and bed than Filipinas.
- They have Japanese tourists, and a chance to meet Asian females from the affluent Japan.
- Tall Thai girls that dress like they stepped out of a fashion magazine, even if they are working in a low salary office job! —- Thai girls spend more money on clothes and grooming than Filipinas for the simple reason that the average wage is a little higher.
- Taxis that do not look like they are falling apart. And, the average taxi fare is only about a US $1.50.
- Streets are safe for walking late at night in any part of the Bangkok city.
- The girls do not understand half of what you are saying – because of poor understanding of English, and you will understand even less of what they are saying on important matters about love and day-to-day issues.
The Philippines has:
- Extremely friendly and sexy girls –even if some are dirt poor.
- The food sucks – unlike Thai and Japanese foods.
- Some safe parts (like Makati) look like any modern Western city. Other areas of Manila that are not safe, and you should always ask a local for advice before walking around in strange neighborhoods.
- Always hassled by beggars and kids that ask for money at street corners, and even while sitting in a taxi at a red stop light.
- Short girls (average high around is only 4’11).
- Some girls are very cute with mixed Euro or Chinese blood.
- Slums and poor people always trying different scams and even try to extract money from love sick Western nation people on the internet.
- Taxis can have rigged meters, or cab drivers that love to take you for unannounced tour around town. But, they all speak English.
- Excellent communications because everyone speaks English.
- Philippines may be a good place to retire for low prices, good weather in the winter, foreigner friendly girls, everyone speaks English and good health care in the major private hospitals.

Actually there are two that are polar opposites and one that is kind of in the middle.
I’m not talking about looks because that’s subjective and everyone has different tastes for Asian girls. I personally don’t find Thais that attractive, however most guys would rate Thai women the hottest of the three.

When I arrived in Bangkok I had to ask three people that worked at the airport where a bathroom was. You would think people that work in the airport around tourists would have a better grasp of the language but apparently not.
If you’re consider moving to the Philippines and never leaving it alternatives to online dating be kind of nice to know the language but not a necessity.

In terms of personality/culture.If one was looking for a wife in either country (not that I am), or a serious relationship, what would you say the main differences between the two are, aside from the obvious, Philippines being Catholic vs Buddhist.etc. I assume Filipino women, even many from villages, can speak at least basic English whereas most Thais can barely speak a few words. Would you say Filipinos and Filipino women in general are more westernised? How to Get Married Legally in Thailand:
STEP 1: FULFILL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Requirements:
- Either of them should not be less than 17 years of age or should be in marriageable age in accordance to the law enforced from your home country. The Court may, in case of having appropriate reason, allow them to marry before attaining such age.
- Either of them should not be an insane person or adjudged incompetent.
- Both of them should not be in blood relations in the direct ascendant or descendant line, or brother or sister of full or half blood i.e. should no be with in the prohibited degrees of relationship.
- Both of them should not have the same adoptive parents.
- Either of them should not have a spouse at the time of marriage. If woman whose husband died or whose marriage has become terminated, the marriage can only take place after expiry of 310 days from such death or termination of marriage, but before such period if:
- A child has been born during such period;
- The divorced couple remarry;
- There is a certificate issued by a qualified doctor who is a lawful physical practitioner in medicine showing that the woman is not pregnant;
- There is an order of the Court allowing the woman to marry
STEP 2: PREPARE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
Requirements for Thai Nationals:
- Identification Cards of both parties
- The House Registration Certificates of both parties
- Person filing has previously registered marriage – If divorced, proof of divorce must be shown; in the event of spousal death (the applicant is a widow or widower) proof must accompany application
- Accompaniment by witnesses
Requirements for Foreigners:
- A copy of their passport along with arrival card
- Affidavit regarding the marital status of the person from the respective embassy
- Translated copy of affidavits to Thai certified by an approved Foreign Ministry Translator

Women – Philippines vs Thailand vs Cambodia
It can be surprising how different the women in the Philippines, Thailand and Cambodia are.
Actually there are two that are polar opposites and one that is kind of in the middle.
I’m not talking about looks because that’s subjective and everyone has different tastes for Asian girls. I personally don’t find Thais that attractive, however most guys would rate Thai women the hottest of the three.
But from a willingness to hook up with foreigners in casual relationships, and overall horniness level the Philippines is a 10 and Cambodia is a 1.
The vast majority of Cambodia women are either saving themselves for marriage, or are working girls.
In the Philippines you have many girls that fit in both of those categories. But you also have a very high percent of Pinays that want to be friends with foreigners, and if their foreigner friend from FilipinoCupid is interested in them they don’t say no.
The communication factor also helps. The demographic in the Philippines that speaks the best English is definitely girls under 30 because they spend so much time on Facebook, uploading selfies to Pinalove or listening to American songs. They also are just a very horny race of people and are so much better in bed.
The majority of Cambodian girls I was with were terrible in bed, whereas you kiss a Filipina on the neck and she is instantly turned on.
I have had to tell Filipina girls that I didn’t want to go any more rounds that night. That’s how horny they are. I doubt that would ever be the case with a girl in Cambodia, or if it is it’s a very rare thing.
Thai women are kind of inbetween. In the major cities there will be plenty of farang hunters, or on sites like Thaifriendly. The Thai girls I was with were somewhat into it in bed, but they seemed to be doing more acting, where as you can tell the Pinays really want it. For me as a sexpest that makes Phils the best country in Asia to live.
Thailand is known as the ‘land of smiles’ – amongst expats that becomes a sarcastic in-joke that Thais always smile to your face but talk bad about you behind your back. I got that impression a bit when I was there. Maybe I needed to get out of the tourist ghettos.
I am sure there is some of that in every country, but it seems worse in Thailand. Filipina women seem to have a much more genuine interest in foreigners.
It should be noted that all of my experience with girls in Cambodia and Thailand was with working girls. But even with prostitutes in the Philippines there is a different hornyness that was not in the other countries.
Communicating
This is one where living in the Philippines dominates and both the other two are quite far behind. English is widely spoken in the Philippines, particularly in the cities and with people that expats come in contact with.
In two years in the country I can really only remember a few times where knowing the local language would have been very beneficial. I am sure there are some other times it would have been nice to know it, but it has only cost me some time or money very rarely.
I actually thought there was a little better English in Cambodia than in Thailand. I am judging both countries only by touristy areas, if you go to the provinces of either I am sure there would be little to no English.
When I arrived in Bangkok I had to ask three people that worked at the airport where a bathroom was. You would think people that work in the airport around tourists would have a better grasp of the language but apparently not.
If you’re consider moving to the Philippines and never leaving it would be kind of nice to know the language but not a necessity.
By contrast if you were planning on staying in either Thailand or Cambodia long term it would definitely pay off to learn the language.

Being someone who lives in Bangkok and regularly travels to the Philippines I may be able to provide you with some general observations and comparisons, but of course it’s okay if you have different opinions based on your own experiences. Anyway, this post isn’t trying to give the definite answer on who is better (even though it may appear so if you scroll down to the end of this post), but rather a good ground for an open discussion.
So here we go, here’s the comparison between Filipina girls and Thai girls based on different criterias. You will find that some of them are more important if you mainly deal with hookers while others are more important in serious relationships.
Bodies & Attractiveness
The first thing that probably comes to your mind when making comparisons between the two countries: Who is more sexy, who’s got the better curves, who’s more beautiful? Now this is really a clash on the highest level as girls in both countries are in my opinion ten times as attractive as for example American, German, French or Australian women. But I would say that the first round goes to Filipina girls as they got, on average, slightly nicer hips, bigger breasts and more beautiful eyes. Filipina women also won the Miss Universe World contest several times in the past (e.g. 2018 & 2015).

Charisma & Charm
Thai girls tend to be (even) more shy in public than Pinays, but that makes them also quite charming and interesting. Also, because they try to avoid anyone losing their face through extensive discussions about issues and problems they just try to show their sweet side as much as they can. And even pretend to be happy when they feel different. On the other hand, Filipina girls are more direct in their speaking and articulation (Christians/Buddhists) which also tends to be sexy because they know how to smile and use their body language just as good as Thai girls do. It really is a matter of taste and I see both of them on a similar great level in terms of charisma and charm.

Caretaking
While your role as the main financial caretaker in the relationship will be expected both in the Philippines and in Thailand (at least in the long run), this is one of the areas where I see a clear advantage for the Thai girls in terms of how they treat their boyfriends. As long as they feel safe, they’ll do everything to make you feel good and take care of the household or even the small little things, like when you go to the food court you could just sit down and let your Thai girl walk around to get the food, or when you left your apartment and notice you forgot something in your room she won’t complain but just go up and go get it. Or I remember when I went to the beach with that Filipina (office) girl in Boracay it was me who put off the sand from the blanket afterwards. Those little things to make your life more convenient, normally you wouldn’t have to tell Thai girls about it – they’d just do it without even asking.
Sex
You don’t need a lot of experience to know that Filipina girls are a lot more passionate in bed and seem to enjoy it more than girls in Thailand. It often feels like Thai girls only do it to make the men happy while Filipinas want it just as much as you do. At the same time it really depends if you prefer that wild action. If we are talking about hookers – sure you definitely get much better value for your money. But if you are in a relationship with a girl, and we all know that the desire to have sex with the same woman rather decreases than increases over time, then I’d rather have my girlfriend not complaining why we didn’t do it for 3 days already. Anyway, this section is about sex as such and therefore we have a clear winner:

Cooking
One of the main reasons why I prefer living in Thailand and rather visit the Philippines regularly is because of the food. Thai food is so much better, tastier, healthier and more diverse than in the Philippines where everything seems like fast food. Just ask a Filipina girl if she can cook, it’s very rare that she says yes. Sure, it might be similar with Thai girls at first, but that’s usually because they are scared that you don’t like it, but if you dig a bit further and let her actually do something they’ll definitely make a lot better cooks than Pinays. And they also feel genuinely happy to feed you too, as for Thais food is one of the most important things in life.
English Skills
It wouldn’t be necessary to go into much detail here, because there’s no doubt that Filipinos speak so much better English than the Thais do and they also understand the western way of thinking a lot better. It’s not the right place to talk about the reasons for that, but let’s just look at how it is: It’s easier to approach a Filipina girl and have a normal chat than it is with a Thai girl. I could now start arguing that you should learn the local language anyway if you plan to have a serious relationship with girls of either country in order to really understand their way of thinking, but anyway this section is about the English skills and that’s an easy one:

Being the Boss in the Relationship
What I love about being with a Thai girl is that she lets you be the boss in the relationship or at least makes you feel like you are. Of course they have their own ways of persuading you doing things and making you think it was you who made the decisions, but generally it’s you who sits on the driving wheel and decides what to do and where to go. You don’t hear the phrase “up to you” in the Philippines nearly as often as you do in Thailand and that’s because Pinays are more direct in explaining what they want. Again I think this is strongly related to the different cultural characteristics of Buddhism and Christianity. Girls in the Philippines also want to be entertained more than girls in Thailand do and I remember lots of situations where I was with a Filipina and she repeatedly asked me “are you ok?” when I just kept quiet for a few minutes.
Optimism and Encouragement
“Mai bpenrai” in Thai means literally “nevermind” or “it doesn’t matter” and even though it really does matter in some situations where a Thai girl doesn’t feel good about something, she tends to look up and forward more quickly than Pinays do who have no problem with showing you a more serious side and expect you to encourage them or come up with a solution. Thai ladies generally seem more happy, optimistic and in turn encourage you as a man more than Filipina girls do and therefore:

But remember we are comparing on a very, very high level. And also keep in mind that it not only depends on your own preferences but also on what you are actually looking for: fun and sex with as many girls as possible? Then the Philippines may be the better place to go right now with slightly cheaper prices and significantly naughtier and more passionate women.
However, if you are looking for a longterm partner, then you may share my opinion that Thai girls have a few key advantages over Pinays in terms of everyday life and how the roles in the relationship are defined. But then again, of course even in Thailand this may look completely different like when you date an attractive office kind of white skinned girl she may very well be completely different from what I explained here and expect her to be the boss.
