Ratings and Reviews
App doesn’t display more than 1/2 of the profile
Why ask questions and give us space to write important details about who we are and what we want. On the mobile app you only have access to the About Me and About My Match portions of the persons profile. It took me weeks to figure out why women were asking me questions about things that were in my profile. Important stuff. I just figured they didn’t read my whole profile even they kept kept saying they did. It led to a lot of wasted time. I give it 3 stars only because I have been pretty successful on this site but I use my laptop and have also paid the ridiculously high $30 fee to have any kind of functionality in this site at all.
Than you PS to give me a new life
When I found I am positive, I feel very sad for a long time. In the past several years, I joined a lot of secret H groups and sites including positive singles dating site, and haven’t find my match so far. After I started using the PS app, I thinks it is very convenient, I can communicate with other herpes singles easily. Yes, the app doesn’t have the same features as site, but it is more interesting and effective than other std dating apps, it has a feature called Drift Bottle, it is interesting, I meet some friends through this feature, I have tried many other popular dating apps including tinder, pof, badoo but I don’t have courage to tell them myself at first. Not like here, we are the same, together.
Also, their customer service is good, when I had a problem and sent them a message, I got a quick response. So I think this is very nice app, hope this app becomes better and better and I might stay here even I found my match, so that I can get more friendship and support. Thank you!!
Suspended Account
I created a account, uploaded picture, and did the video verification. I browsed some profiles for a few minutes and closed the app. I tried to open the app the next day and it says my account is suspended and it says to contact support. I sent support a email and I haven’t heard back from anyone in days. It’s really suspicious.
Update: I received a response from Positive Singles Support. I was told there was some unusual activity on my account and that they strictly prohibited scammers from the app. I asked for clarification on what specifically was “unusual activity” and how can I reactivate my account. Once again Positive Single support said there was unusual activity but did not specify what was unusual with my activity. Next, I was asked to provide a copy of my drivers license or passport along with my username/email address to verify my account. Now, why have users upload a recorded video of yourself just to be told to give your drivers license or passport for account verification. That’s seems like unnecessary information harvesting. And that’s exactly what I told Positive Single support. The representative that was helping me said, “We are sorry that we cannot unblock your account if you do not plan to verify my account.

Dating with an STI: 7 ways to navigate the (often harsh) dating world
The online dating world for most is overwhelming when it comes to options, but if you have a sexually transmitted infection or disease, the pool can seem a lot smaller.
Jenelle Marie Pierce, founder and executive director of The STD Project, a site that raises awareness around stigmas of STDs and STIs, says the ongoing slight against people with STIs exists because of the labels.
People feel like the folks who have STIs or STDs are trashy, promiscuous or cheaters, she tells Global News. These are all dirty words, but in reality, anyone can contract and STI and all kinds of people do.

Most people are introduced to these infections and diseases as a consequence of having unprotected sex or having multiple partners, Pierce says, and this further adds to the stigma. Additionally, the confusion around these infections and the fact that they sometimes dont exhibit any symptoms, further besmirches the people who have them.

In fact, as sexual health blog Exposed notes, the term STD is used less often, and STI is preferred, because the word disease has too many negative connotations. On top of this, some people just have infections and not diseases.

STDs have been around forever — think back to junior high health classes. But the phrase STI doesn’t yet have the same negative connotation attached to it, so doctors and health advisers are more than happy to refer to them as infections rather than diseases, the site adds.
Below, Pierce gives tips on how to navigate the dating world with an STI.
#1 Educate yourself
Pierce says for starters, anyone with the disease or infection should know exactly what they have. Nobody is a better advocate than you, she says. Part of being your own advocate means seeking out that information, finding as many resources as you can, and learning about where the stigmas come from.
#2 Try STI-friendly sites
There are several dating sites and apps out there that cater to people with STIs and STDs, Pierce says. Positive Singles is for people with herpes and STDs, MPWH is for people with herpes, and Hift is for those with herpes, HPV, and HIV/AIDS. This is a good first step to find people who have gone through the same experience, she says.

#3 Dont limit yourself
The more popular online dating apps, like Bumble, Tinder or Coffee Meets Bagel, arent off limits, either. In turn, someone with an STI could meet someone without an infection, but who is open to the idea of being with someone who does. In this situation, education is key, she says, and you have to be direct and confident to bring up the conversation as it comes.
#4 Be direct in your profile (sort of)
Pierce says sometimes when people with STIs go on popular dating apps, theyll add a series of numbers to their profile page or username that indicates they have an infection.
Its a low-key way to say I am STI-positive, she says.
This, of course, is something only people with that STI would know. For example, herpes is

However, if you choose to go this route and meet someone who doesnt have an STI or understand what the numbers mean, make sure youre clear and honest about your infection.

#5 Or just add it to your profile
Sometimes, people just dont want to waste time or have the conversation, and this is totally fine, Pierce adds. If you want people to know you are STI- or STD-positive, add it your profile page to weed out people who consider it a deal breaker.
#6 Have the conversation organically
This is different for every dater, Pierce says. Some people like to take it slow and get to know someone before telling them about their infection. Pierce says it is OK to get to know someone first and reveal the STI after the first interaction. However, if sex is involved, again, you need to be direct.
#7 Worried about that conversation? Practice
Bringing up your infection is never a simple topic of discussion, and its natural to fear rejection. If you are having trouble bringing up the conversation, practice before hand. Talk about what your STI means, what your worries are and what you think of the dating experience with this person so far. If youre on the receiving end of the conversation, be patient and willing to listen — this isnt an easy subject to talk about.

And if you do experience rejection, let it roll off your shoulder, Pierce says. There are so many other fish in the sea.

Diagnosed With an STI? Here’s How to Approach Dating
By Ella Dawson
According to the Center for Disease Control, one in five people in the United States have a sexually transmitted infection (STI). Even though STIs are incredibly prevalent, somehow most conversations about safe sex focus on STI prevention, rather than what happens after you test positive. How should you approach your love life when you are one of the millions of folks living with a common—but stigmatized—virus like HIV, HPV, or herpes?
According to the experts, dating with an STI is not all that different from dating without one. Here’s what to expect as you navigate relationships as an STI-positive person.
Taking care of yourself is priority one
It’s important to set aside time to learn about your STI—and unlearn the stereotypes you may have absorbed about people who test positive. Viruses like herpes, HPV, and HIV are heavily stigmatized, which means they’re commonly associated with irresponsibility, deception, and disturbing physical symptoms. In the U.S., abstinence-only sex education often paints an STI as a consequence of poor decision-making, as opposed to a common and manageable infection. That negative perception is reinforced by pop culture, where mean-spirited herpes jokes are frequent and actual storylines about STIs are far and few between.
For many people with STIs, the stigma is worse than the actual infection. “When it comes to STIs that can endure for years (e.g., HPV) or last for a lifetime (herpes, HIV), the impact on folks mental health can far outweigh any effects on physical health,” says Dr. Ina Park, professor at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. “The stigma, both real and imagined, can prevent people from getting tested, disclosing their status, and generally taking care of their sexual health.”
One of the best ways to balance out the negative messages we receive about STIs is to arm yourself with accurate information. Don’t be afraid to talk to your doctor about what to expect from your infection and how to manage any symptoms that may occur. You can also turn to trustworthy, compassionate sources like sex education website Scarleteen, or follow publicly STI-positive influencers on Instagram like Jennifer Vaughan and Courtney Brame. Remember that your STI status is just one detail in your life; you are not your STI, and your body deserves love and respect.
Learn how to share your STI status with potential partners
Before you have sex with a new person, you need to share your STI status. This step is called disclosure, and it’s a critical part of obtaining informed consent. It is also a great way to build trust and open communication in a new relationship, whether it’s a casual fling or a committed, monogamous connection.
When and how you choose to have that conversation is ultimately up to you. Camille, 27, chooses to mention that she is herpes-positive in her dating app profiles. After listing her hobbies and other basics, her bio closes with the line, “I also have genital HSV-1 (herpes) so looking for someone who’s open to chatting about safe sex and unlearning stigma.”
“I include it because when I’m looking for something casual, I want to be as upfront as possible,” she says. “While some experiences were more positive than others, I found a great casual partner who was willing to educate themselves. Plus, I’ve only, to my knowledge, been outright rejected once!”
Some folks prefer to share their status via text message. Disclosing in a text lets you choose your words carefully, and gives you both the opportunity to process your emotions in private. This method also lets you share links to resources where your partner can educate themselves on STI stigma, transmission rates, and prevention methods.
Then there is the tried and true method: disclosing your STI in person. If you feel comfortable telling your date face to face, remember that your energy sets the tone for the conversation. If you approach the topic with warmth and generosity, as opposed to embarrassment and anxiety, youre more likely to put your partner at ease and get a positive reaction.
Don’t forget that you’re not the only person with an STI status! This conversation is a two-way street: you should ask about the timing and results of your partner’s last STI screening, too. If they don’t know their status, this is an opportunity to change that.
Navigate having safe sex, together
Once you’ve swapped your STI statuses and decided to take your relationship to the next step, it’s time to talk about safe sex. There are a range of protection methods available depending on your specific virus.
HPV and herpes are both spread through direct skin contact. Barrier methods like condoms and dental dams significantly reduce the risk of transmission, but they dont eliminate it entirely. If you have HPV, your partner can consider getting the Gardasil vaccine. If you are herpes-positive, you can talk to your doctor about suppressive therapy, a once-a-day pill that lessens your risk of outbreaks and transmission. In the event that you think you might be having a herpes outbreak, it’s best to wait at least seven days after sores have healed before you have sex.
If you are HIV-positive, talk to your doctor about antiretroviral therapy, or ART, a medicine that reduces the amount of HIV in your blood. Once you reach an undetectable viral load, you are effectively at zero risk of transmitting HIV through sex. Meanwhile, your partner should consider pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, a once-daily medicine that prevents HIV transmission. When in doubt, use a condom, preferably latex. Natural membrane condoms like lambskin should not be used for HIV or STI prevention.
It can be nerve-racking to ask your doctor about how to have safe sex, but remember: your medical provider wants to help you live a healthy, informed life. If you ever feel judged by a healthcare professional, it might be time to seek out care elsewhere. You can also learn more about navigating safe sex with an STI from Planned Parenthood.
Create your testing routine
It is possible to be STI-positive and asymptomatic, or not to show symptoms for quite some time after infection. That makes it important to build a testing routine with your partner so that they can get diagnosed quickly if transmission does occur. You can ask your general practitioner for an STI test, or find a local clinic on the CDC website.
When it comes to knowing your STI status, keep careful track of the tests you’ve recently taken. For example, the standard urine sample does not test for herpes, HPV, or HIV. The CDC does not currently recommend herpes testing for people without possible symptoms, which can make it difficult to learn your herpes status if your doctor doesn’t determine a test necessary.
HPV testing is only available for people with vaginas and involves gently scraping or brushing the cervix to remove cells for testing. “Partner testing is not recommended,” Park says of couples where HPV is present. But, notably: “There are some folks who should get screened for HPV-related precancer or cancer anyway, and these are folks with a cervix who are above age 21, regardless of the gender of their sex partners.”
Meanwhile, HIV is usually diagnosed with a blood test or swab of cells taken from inside of your cheek. “For an HIV-negative partner, if they are taking HIV PrEP, they should test every three months for HIV and STIs per the national CDC recommendation,” says Park.
Once you and your partner have your test results in hand, pay attention to the language you use to describe your STI statuses. According to herpes-positive sex educator Emily Depasse, “If you’re STI-negative, labeling yourself as ‘clean’ implies and reinforces the narrative that you are not ‘dirty.’”
After all, your STI status isn’t a reflection of your value or your character. It’s how you handle your STI as a sexually-active person that truly matters.

Diagnosed With an STI? Here’s How to Approach Dating
By Ella Dawson
According to the Center for Disease Control, one in disability datings app free people in the United States have a sexually transmitted infection (STI).
It’s important to set aside time to learn about dating apps for people with stds STI—and unlearn the stereotypes you may have absorbed about people who test positive. Viruses like herpes, HPV, and HIV are heavily stigmatized, which means they’re commonly associated with irresponsibility, deception, dating apps for people with stds, and disturbing physical symptoms.
“The stigma, dating apps for people with stds, both real and imagined, can prevent people from getting tested, disclosing their status, and generally taking care of their sexual health.”
After listing her hobbies and other basics, her bio dating apps for people with stds with the line, “I also have genital HSV-1 (herpes) so looking for someone who’s open to chatting about safe sex and unlearning stigma.”
“I include it because when I’m looking for something casual, I want dating multiple girls be as upfront as possible,” she says. “While some experiences were more positive than others, I found a great casual partner who was willing to educate themselves. Plus, I’ve only, to my knowledge, been outright rejected once!”
Some folks prefer dating apps for people with stds share their status via text message. Disclosing in a text lets you choose your words carefully, and dating apps for people with stds you both the dating apps for people with stds to process your emotions in private. This method also lets you share links to resources where your partner can dating apps for people with stds themselves on STI stigma, transmission rates, and prevention methods.
Don’t forget nihilist dating site you’re not the only person with an STI status! This conversation is a two-way street: you should ask about the timing and results of your partner’s last STI screening, too, dating apps for people with stds.
If you are herpes-positive, you can talk to your doctor about suppressive therapy, dating apps for people with stds, a once-a-day pill that lessens your risk of outbreaks and transmission. In the event that you think you might be having a herpes outbreak, it’s best to wait at least seven days after dating apps for people with stds have healed before you have sex.
When in doubt, use a condom, dating apps for people with stds, preferably latex. Natural membrane condoms like lambskin should not be used for HIV or STI prevention.
It can be nerve-racking to ask your doctor about how to have safe sex, but remember: your medical provider wants to help you live a healthy, dating apps for people with stds, informed life.
You can ask your general practitioner for an STI test, or find a local clinic dating apps for people with stds the CDC website.
Once you and your partner have your test results in hand, dating apps for people with stds, pay attention to the language you use to describe your STI statuses.

Inhealth officials in Rhode Island released data showing a dramatic spike in cases of syphilis (79 percent), gonorrhea (30 percent), and HIV (33 percent) in the previous year. The uptick, they said, wasn’t an outlier — it was part of a national trend. And while some of the new cases could be attributed to better testing, officials for the first time said STD rates were rising because of certain high-risk behaviors, including using online dating sites “to arrange casual and often anonymous sexual encounters.”
Since then, the trend for several STDs nationwide has only gotten worse: According to a September report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were more dating apps for people with stds 2 million cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis reported in the United States in — the highest cumulative number ever recorded. “Not only are we at an all-time high,” Gail Bolan, the director of the division of STD prevention at the CDC, told me, “but we’re starting to see increases in all kind of communities.”
There are a few reasons cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis are on the rise. For instance, epidemiologists have documented a rise in sex without condoms among men who have sex with men.
But health experts increasingly view apps and sites such as Tinder, Grindr, and OkCupid as enablers of high-risk sex, helping people meet and hook up more efficiently than ever before. The impact of these sites is so profound they are also transforming the way health officials track and prevent outbreaks.
“We used to think about what we can do with bathhouses and sex clubs to dating apps for people with stds sure people’s risk was reduced,” said Dan Wohlfeiler, director of Building Healthy Online Communities, a public health group that works with apps to support STI prevention. These places, after all, had become important meeting points for men who have sex with men — the group most affected by the HIV epidemic.
Today, the public health focus has shifted to what some have called “digital bathhouses.”
“Now that dating sites and apps have become so common, we know we need to work with them,” Wohlfeiler said.
There’s just one problem: Many of the major dating networks don’t want to be involved in STD prevention, nor have they acknowledged the impact they’re having on public health.
“They are hesitant to support sexual health,” said Jeffrey Klausner, a professor of medicine and STD researcher at UCLA. “They realize that their sites could be stigmatized for being associated with STDs. They do as little as possible.”
Just as ride-hailing apps like Uber and Lyft have disrupted transportation — and required new regulations and cultural adaptations — dating sites have disrupted the way people have sex. Health advocates say it’s time they acknowledge that impact — and begin to help fight the STDs they may be helping to spread.
STD outbreaks are being linked to dating apps
Health officials in states around the country have linked recent STD outbreaks to the rise in internet dating, dating apps for people with stds.
In one study looking at the link between Craigslist personal ads and HIV, researchers at the University of Minnesota identified an increase in HIV cases in 33 states between and — and determined that the advent of Craigslist alone contributed to a 16 percent increase in cases.
In Nevada, a record number of syphilis cases last year was attributed, in part, to the “rise in anonymous sex via social media.” In California, Klausner said, the state health department is increasingly hearing that people with STDs met their partners on sites like Grindr.
“There’s no doubt meeting new partners is much easier with apps,” Wohlfeiler added. “In Wyoming there are still no gay bars, but the internet makes it much easier for people to find each other.”
But the data we have only demonstrates a correlation between online dating and STDs — not causation. Some of the best research on the sex lives of dating dating apps for people with stds users suggests they tend to have more sexual partners than non-app users. That means people dating apps for people with stds are drawn to apps may just be more sexually active than non-users, said lead study author Justin Lehmiller, a sex and psychology researcher with Ball State University, dating apps for people with stds.
“It may not be that the technology is increasing the risk, but rather there’s this selection effect for people who are more sexually active who tend to use the apps,” he explained. In other words, what matters more than the apps themselves may be the behavior of people who use them. Either way, dating apps and sites appear to be helping facilitate connections — and disease outbreaks — that may not have otherwise happened.
Public health officials are shifting their focus to apps — but apps don’t want to be associated with STDs
As health experts learn more about the links between high-risk behavior enabled by dating apps and STD outbreaks, they’re finding that apps make the work of tracking cases harder to do.
In particular, according to John Auerbach, president and CEO of the public health nonprofit the Trust for America’s Health, the anonymous encounters happening via apps make it harder to do contact tracing, a key epidemiological process in understanding an outbreak.
In the past, when a person was diagnosed with a serious STD, a public health official would call or meet with his or her sexual partners to talk about getting tested and on potential treatment.
But with more anonymous sexual encounters, epidemiologists may not be able to track down people’s partners and notify them that they might have an STD, Auerbach said. And that means any diseases those partners might have can spread more easily too.
An even bigger issue, said Michael Weinstein, the president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, is that apps have also changed the modes of disease transmission in sexual networks, making it easier for infections to spread.
“Because these are closed pools of people in limited geographies [using dating apps], it means that infections can spread more easily,” he said. “That’s why we call apps a ‘digital bathhouse.’”
That’s also why public health officials are so eager to work with apps, to get them to add warnings and sexual health messages where users are convening — on the apps themselves.
The big dating apps for people with stds apps could be doing much more on the sexual health front
In the UK, the National Health Service is pushing major networks like Tinder and Grindr to advertise places that provide free (or affordable) condoms because of the role they’re playing the rise of sexually transmitted diseases among young men who have sex with men.
When it comes to the US, the much bigger sites like Tinder and Grindr — which have some 50 million and 10 million users, respectively — aren’t doing enough, dating apps for people with stds, according to health advocates. “I don’t think they feel it’s their responsibility," Weinstein said.
He and others would like to see online networks engaged in data collection on STDs, partner notification, dating apps for people with stds, condom promotion, and distributing information about self-testing and STDs. “If you’re going to hook up, dating apps for people with stds, protect yourself and your partner making that hip and cool is something the apps could help with a great deal,” said Weinstein.
His group, dating apps for people with stds, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, has put up billboards and bus ads showing silhouettes of people kissing with the names of dating apps (Tinder and Grindr) and STDs, in the hopes of sending the message that encounters originating online can lead to infections.
Tinder responded with a cease-and-desist order, but settled with the foundation in January after agreeing to add a health safety section to its website. Other major sites, such as OkCupid, also have health information posted to their sites. (Tinder declined to comment on this story, and only pointed me to its website’s “dating safely” advice section.)
They should be doing more, Klausner said, and yet there’s currently no way to regulate them to do so. “From their perspective, [apps] don’t want to be associated with STDs. No one has any authority to require or mandate that these sites do anything to mitigate the consequences of their businesses,” he added. And there isn’t “much political will or leadership to take that on.”
A number of apps and sites have been moving ahead of the major dating networks in working to promote safer sex. The gay men’s social network Hornet allows users to indicate their HIV status in their profiles, choosing from among five options: negative, negative on PrEP (the pill to prevent HIV), positive, online dating for men is awful undetectable, and don’t know.
Hornet also built in a public health intervention: If a user choses negative, he’s asked to disclose the date of his last STD test, and Hornet then reminds users to get tested in six months.
The effort came out of conversations with users about the desire to disclose their status in this context, and avoid awkward and difficult conversations later, said Hornet’s senior health innovation strategist, Alex Garner. “We’ve found it be effective in terms of allowing gay men to express their HIV status in a way that’s empowering and works to combat stigma.”
Daddyhunt, another gay men’s dating site, worked with Wohlfeiler’s Building Healthy Online Communities to create five public service announcements about PrEP, STD testing, and condoms that pop up when users are online. The announcements got more than 2 million views.
[Update: After publication of this story, Grindr sent a statement about their recent effort to add HIV status and “last test date” as standard fields on their profiles, as well as links to sexual health resources, and public service announcements about PrEP.]
There are also dating sites entirely focused on connecting people with STDs. Positive Singles calls itself the “largest confidential herpes and STD” dating network, and Wohlfeiler is working with the University of Washington to develop “partner notification” services, which apps could integrate to let users alert their partners when they have been diagnosed with an STD.
A few people in the health community have made their own efforts to engage users around sexual health issues on Grindr. Antón Castellanos Usigli, a public health professional in New York, created a Grindr profile to connect with at-risk patients about STD prevention services at a Brooklyn clinic. According to dating apps for people with stds Guardian, within a year he was able to bring in more than new patients for STD testing or counseling — after completely failing to attract anyone through more traditional means of outreach in nightclubs.
Public health researchers in Los Angeles bought ad space on Grindr to advertise ordering self-testing HIV kits.
“We saw that users on Grindr were receptive to receiving information on HIV testing, and they thought HIV self-tests were an acceptable way of getting tested,” said the study’s lead author, Lina Rosengren, an infectious diseases doctor. “So I think [apps] will have an increasing role in public health.”

“We used to think about what we can do with bathhouses and sex clubs to make sure people’s risk was reduced,” said Dan Wohlfeiler, director of Building Healthy Online Communities, a public health group that works with apps to support STI prevention.
Health officials in states around the country have linked recent STD outbreaks to the rise in internet dating.
Some of the best research on the sex lives of dating app users suggests they tend to have more sexual partners than non-app users. That means people who are drawn to apps may just be more sexually active than non-users, said lead study author Justin Lehmiller, a sex and psychology researcher with Ball State University.
The big dating apps could be doing much more on the sexual health front
In the UK, the National Health Service is pushing major networks like Tinder and Grindr to advertise places that provide free (or affordable) condoms because of the role they’re playing the rise of sexually transmitted diseases among young men who have sex with men.
When it comes to the US, the much bigger sites like Tinder and Grindr — which have some 50 million and 10 million users, respectively — aren’t doing enough, according to health advocates. “I don’t think they feel it’s their responsibility," Weinstein said.
He and others would like to see online networks engaged in data collection on STDs, partner notification, condom promotion, and distributing information about self-testing and STDs. “If you’re going to hook up, protect yourself and your partner making that hip and cool is something the apps could help with a great deal,” said Weinstein.
His group, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, has put up billboards and bus ads showing silhouettes of people kissing with the names of dating apps (Tinder and Grindr) and STDs, in the hopes of sending the message that encounters originating online can lead to infections.
The gay men’s social network Hornet allows users to indicate their HIV status in their profiles, choosing from among five options: negative, negative on PrEP (the pill to prevent HIV), positive, positive undetectable, and don’t know.
According to the Guardian, within a year he was able to bring in more than new patients for STD testing or counseling — after completely failing to attract anyone through more traditional means of outreach in nightclubs.

In , at pounds and with HIV coursing through his veins, a man named Rick Burton launched a website called HIVNet, one of the first STD-focused dating communities on the internet. "It was started for purely selfish reasonsI thought it would last six months or a year," he recalls. "I could meet some people and shut the thing down."
Burton was first diagnosed in the s, when much of America was still treating HIV and AIDS like a problem that didn't matter much because it supposedly only killed gay people and White House officials laughed about the problem. He describes those early years as living in "survival mode." He was part of a community of people either scared to death or resigned to their fate, bracing themselves for whatever was around the corner. But by the mid-'90s, as the first protease inhibitors were integrated into healthcare and HIV-positive people started getting a little less sick, it became clear there was still a life left to lead.
"Instead of living on a six month timeframe, all the sudden you were thinking 'You know, I might have a couple years left here,'" says Burton. But survivors still had to cope with the social stigma. "The minute you told your friends about it, they were gone. You told your family about it and they were gone. The Internet was a gold nugget we found because we could socialize with other positive people all over the country. To me, that was a life-saver."
More than 15 years later, HIVNet is still going strong, with some members dating back to the original founding of the site. Its membership is restricted to people who are actively living with the virusa point of pride for Burtonbut it's far from the only site of its kind on the Internet. There's PositiveSingles, a dating app that's marketed to people with both HIV and herpes. There's Hope, which bills itself as "the best free herpes dating site and App for singles with herpes and other STDs to find love and support." There's POZ, a New York-based media outlet with an extensive personals section that boasts over , members. And there's PozMatch, a site that, like HIVNet, has an HIV-positive owner and has been around since the late '90s.
The interface of these services are not unlike what you might find on Tinder or OKCupid. An "about me," an interests section, a questionnaire for height, weight, religion, and sexuality. The only noticeable difference is the space to disclose what you're living with: Chlamydia, Hepatitis, HPV, Herpes, or HIV/AIDS. On PositiveSingles you can find message boards full of treatment advice and date success stories, as well as a navigator that points you to your nearest care center.
Disclosure is the most important part of dating with an STD. It's not something that ever feels routine, but it's also not something you canmuch less shouldavoid. There is strict legislation across the U.S. that punishes the failure to disclose STD-positive status with prison time. Beyond that, Ii's easy to feel alienated or unwanted when a bombshell lingers over every flirt, making it only natural that many Americans turn to dating apps targeted specifically at the positive community.
As such, these sites offer safe harbor for folks like John Anderson. A couple years ago, he took home a one-night stand from a friend's house party, and soon after contracted Herpes. "I knew what I had wasn't life ending in any way, but I was also very aware that it was life altering," recalls the year-old member of the Canadian Army. "My common sense told me my personal life had taken a hard right turn."
Anderson immediately deleted his Tinder and Plenty of Fish accounts. It was a dark few monthshe returned to mainstream online dating briefly, but was quickly rebuffed by a few potential matches after his status was revealed, and has not been back. Rattled by those rejections, he signed up for PositiveSingles, believing it offered a better shot at a long lasting relationship.
He was right.
"The disclosure is stressful in the beginning, but then becomes almost empowering," Anderson says. "You are with people who have been through exactly what you are going through and know exactly how you feel. People who have thought similar thoughts and reacted in ways you can sympathize with. It makes sending that first message to a girl much easier."
Beyond the simple disclosure, though, Anderson says the site also offered an unexpected peace of mind. "I could at least not worry about infecting another person," he explains. "The idea of infecting another person terrifies me as I wasn't informed prior to having sex with the woman who infected me; she took away my choice in the matter and that is something I can never do to another person."
Lindsay Connors, 35, feels much the same way. She found out she was HIV positive in , and tried a few targeted dating networks in the early days of her diagnosis. Back then, she found a small pool of users and limited heterosexual options, and so has dated "normally" (a phrase she uses, but also hates) since, and tells me almost everyone she's ever slept with or dated has been negative. But recently, after the dissolution of a five-year relationship, she felt compelled to sign up at PositiveSingles.
"I wanted to have people in my life that I didn't feel I was hiding a secret from," she says. "For most of us, it's so comforting to know you don't have to hide your meds,"
Connors has a good support system: She's a veteran survivor with plenty of people in her life that know her status, but recently she's found herself on dates with men who have been positive for less than a year, and are just as freaked out as she was as a year old.
"It's funny, they're usually a lot older than me, where it feels like I should be seeking advice from them, but they're like, 'Oh my gosh, you have so much information,'" Connors says. "I have a friend right now who's a doctor and was diagnosed in the last year, and he's terrified because it could absolutely destroy his career, and I just talk him through it, and he's like, ''You don't understand what you've done for me.'
"I'm happy to help, because when I was going through it, I had nobody."
That kind of connection is what makes HIV and STD dating networks special: They're basically just dating tools like the rest, but a negative person's relationship to Tinder is very different from a positive person's relationship to these communities. On the former, there is no shared experience in swiping right or swiping left beyond the desire for sex or romance. But sites like HIVNet, Hope, and Poz are built as safe spaces, corners of the Internet where positive people can connect with those experiencing similar fears. People sign up for dating sites to hook up; people sign up for STD dating sites to feel recognizedand then hook up.
Rick Burton learned he had HIV on an answering machine in the middle of the night. Back then, he had no access to counseling, therapy, or anything else. The infrastructure is better now, and he believes websites like his own helped make it so. If nothing else, HIVNet and its counterparts have given their users reason to believe that testing positive doesn't shut the door on authentic, transparent intimacy.

The Bottom Line MPWH is the go-to pick when it comes to herpes dating sites. The fact you can use the site on your iPhone, Android, or desktop is also a nice added perk.
3. eHarmony – Best STD Dating Site for Those Seeking Life-Long Commitment
- In-depth assessment upon signup to better match singles
- Mainstream app with large user base
- More successful relationship than any other site
eHarmony is a mainstream dating app but still makes it on our list of the best dating apps for STDS. The personality assessment and complex matching algorithm has led to more successful relationships than any other dating site. However, as a mainstream site, there is no expectation that a match is STD positive. Therefore, members must be responsible and let potential partners know upfront about their condition.
The Bottom Line – A great place to meet singles that are matched to your core values and needs but requires honesty in regard to your positive status. While its not a dedicated STD dating site, its still a great place where you can find someone special.
4. Meet Positives Best for Positive Singles Who Want to Avoid “The Talk”
- Free to register
- Wide user base for all sexual orientations
- Provides support features alongside dating features
Meet Positives operates with the intention of making the dating scene less awkward for STD positive singles. The idea is that users of the site are all aware of your positive status, so the need for “the talk” is no longer necessary. Additionally, the app provides community support and success stories to help members come together for one another.
The Bottom Line – If the idea of mainstream dating and telling your partner about your STD makes you uncomfortable, Meet Positives offers a place where positive status is upfront and needs no discussion.
5. HSV Date Best Secondary HSV Dating Site
- Dating site exclusively for Herpes positive singles
- Quick matching system
- Membership as low as $/month
HSV Date is a community exclusively for Herpes Simplex positive singles. It is on our list of the best dating apps for STD thanks to its easy signup, large user base, and easy matching system. Simply click yes or no on members to make navigating potential matches easy. If you want something a little more in-depth, you can go view members profiles before opting to send a message.
The Bottom Line – Blends features from hookup dating apps and traditional dating apps to create a customizable experience for HSV positive singles.
6. Pos Date Online Dating for Singles with HIV
- Exclusive dating app for HIV positive singles.
- Simple Signup Takes 10 minutes or less.
- Membership starts at $/month
Pos Date is a simple, but visually appealing dating site for singles with HIV to find love online. While we cant ignore that this STD dating site has quite a few positive reviews from users there were a few things that bothered us. Chief among them was that free users are very limited. With a free account you can only upload images, search the site, and send flirts (similar to a like or a wink on other platforms. After that this is one of the more expensive STD dating sites available.
The Bottom Line – If youre looking for a dating site that only has other singles with HIV, Pos Date may be worth a try. Just be prepared to pay.
Tips for Positive Singles Dating
- Protect Your Identity – It is likely that you don’t want everyone in your life knowing your positive status. If this is the case, consider using a fake name on your dating profile. This keeps others from stumbling upon your dating profile while searching you online.
- Avoid Trolls – Unfortunately, some people are the worst. They seek out members of positive sites to torment on social media platforms. To avoid this, avoid leaving any trace of your other social media activity on your dating profile.
- Take Your Time – When you match with other positive singles online, it can feel natural to rush along and get to meeting each other as quickly as possible. Slow down! Allow yourself time to assess the other person and catch on to any red flags.
- Trust Your Instincts – If someone you meet online seems too good to be true, refuses to chat on camera, or tells stories that don’t line up, you may have found a catfish/ scammer. Trust yourself. If it feels fishy, it probably isn’t worth your time.
Mainstream Dating Apps: How to Tell Your Match You are STD Positive
- Be Direct – Don’t skirt around the topic. For example, “Before our relationship goes any further, you need to know that I am STD positive.”
- Listen Without Getting Defensive – Your match may have a lot of questions, and that is fair. As long as they aren’t insulting you, you shouldn’t take their curiosity offensively.
- Respect Rejection – If your match decides to move on after learning of your positive status, there is no need to continue trying to convince them. There is someone out there for you, and they aren’t the one.
What if My STD is Curable?
Curable STDs are still scary, so we understand and appreciate your concern about dating. However, the best option for you is to seek medical treatment and avoid dating until you are no longer contagious. If you are already speaking to an online match when you discover your curable status, you are under no obligation to reveal that information to non-sexual partners.
Dating Apps for Special Conditions
Sometimes there are specific STD dating apps for different diagnoses. These specialized sites can really help you find what youre looking for.
An Encouraging Message for Positive Singles
Being STD positive does not define you or determine your worth as a person. Though being a positive single can make safe dating a little more involved, it doesn’t prevent you from finding love and happiness. It doesn’t even keep you from dating around, as long as you do so responsibly. The most important factor for any person, with any problems, and any past is how you handle yourself today.
